Boat trip from Cadaques to Cap de Creus
Our second day staying in Sa Costa luxury villa in Catalonia, we prayed for the clouds to disappear in the morning so we could hop on a boat and spend a few hours sailing. If you have been following my blog for some time, then you must be familiar with me being a boat/ship/cruise freak. As they say, positive thinking helps and so it did on the 12th March when the sunbeams won over the clouds and we could sail our way from the Bay of Cadaques on Charter Sant Isidre. Yes, our boat trip from Cadaques to Cap de Creus was happening :)

The Sant Isidre, built in 1925 in Mallorca as a fishing vessel, was restored in the 1990’s after the Spanish Civil War and is used nowadays for charted trips around Cap de Creus – the Easternmost part of Spain made a national park in 1998 due to its geological richness.

Our handsome sailors Luis y Eladi with rough weather-beaten faces were excellent and let us enjoy the breeze and the beauty of the coast with not much talking. We saw the white Cadaques town from further, got a glimpse of a cave, the white lighthouse located 87 m above sea level, houses owned by famous people along the coast (even Shakira stayed in one of them!) and also huge rock formations standing out proudly from the sea and thus being home base for some sea birds.

We even sailed up to that part of the Cap de Creus where we could already observe France on the horizon with sea gulls flying above our heads. Every sunbeam made the trip even more enjoyable and I let the atmosphere get better under my skin when I lay down looking at the half cloudy sky. It reminded me of our boat trip from Palamosa few months ago.

On the way back we anchored the Sant Isidre for an hour and the motor boat took us from there to quiet Cala Guilolla beach with abandoned colourful boats. While our sailors were preparing Fideua (a Catalan sea food specialty) for the rest of the group back on the Sant Isidre, we just chilled out on the beach full of interesting pebbles. I even did some yoga poses on one of the boats :)

Then Luis and Eladi got to the beach on the motor boat with the lunch ready. It did look tempting but as I don’t eat sea food, a vegetarian sandwich had to be enough for me. We finished the lunch with a famous dessert from Cadaques called taps (taps mean caps – like caps for bottle of Spanish champagne Cava). Very sugary, made of white flour, with nothing inside and not healthy at all, but yet so tasty! I had to try one too.
With full stomachs, we jumped on the motor boat to get back to the Sant Isidre we were missing already. On the way back to Cadaques we sailed closer to Portlligat, a little village where once Dali’s house, now a Dali’s museum is located we could visit one of the following days.It seemed like the Sun finished its work for the day and the Tramontana wind, clouds and even drizzling replaced the earlier warmer times. Most of us spent the last hour sailing inside the cabin chatting, or napping like I did. The waves on the open seas were the best lullaby.

I took a boat ride from Roses to Cadaques and back last year. Such dramatic views of the Cap de Creus along the way. It was a great ride even though the waters were super rough that day and we didn’t have time to get out and explore Cadaques. Next time!

Wow, what an adventure! I’m jealous of the weather and seafood :) I also love yoga and practice it in many weird places :P
