The weirdest massage at Santhigiri Ayurveda Munnar Tea County Kerala
After a very long road trip to the Munnar tea plantations and a few hours of shooting the locals around Munnar town, I came back to Kerala Munnar Tea County Resort for dinner.
Honestly, I was super tired and sore just everywhere when checking out details about the hotel and watching the sunset from my balcony.
And then an ”unexpected” idea crossed my mind!
Wait?!
The only state in India I visited so far is super famous not only for its Kerala Backwaters, but it’s supposed to be the cradle of Ayurveda, too.
Means just one thing to me!
Woo hoo!
I should get more spa time :)
So I called to the spa receptionist to find out if they had a very last minute availability.
10 minutes afterwards I was there, ready more than ever to try another Ayurvedic treatment…
First, I was in a small shock when I entered the massage room. No music, no fancy things, no bathrobe, no dim lights.
There was just a wooden bed, a plastic chair covered with an old pinky towel, a super old heater and a small stove on the floor to heat up the oil. My masseuse did not speak the best English so it was funny in the beginning when she was telling me what to do and I understood her nothing but Indian accent.
But in the end I was happy we could not really chat which made me enjoy the massage without any interruptions.
To start, I had to get naked and just put on the weirdest thong I’ve ever seen.
It was tied up at the back and like a meter long piece of cloth coming from my waist in the front went all around down my feminine organs up to the waist in the back. What a weird feeling!
First, I sat at the chair and got a head massage with oil. It was pretty strong and already put me in the relaxing mode as it showed the masseuse was good at her thing.
Then I could lie down on the very tough bed with the belly down. She started massaging my legs, then arms, belly, cleavage (also the boobs, which is a very normal thing in Kerala’s spas that they don’t cover the boobs but they even massage them.)
Afterwards, I turned on my back and the same process followed from the toes up to my neck.
Then she heated 10-cm big packs and began to beat me up with them using a special technique. Let me tell you, it felt pretty awesome!
She also untied my thongs when I was laying on the belly to massage my whole butt, too.
Just being half of my size, she had a lot of strength! And also used her nails to press points on my hands and feet. The feet hurt a bit as just a few hours before that I was walking on hot pavement made of small stones.
I almost fell asleep if not the pain in my left foot and so much oil that I was a bit slipping around the bed. To finish it off, I got a face massage.
The best part of it was the head temples which she paid special attention to for a few minutes. It was like a sort of sedatives when she massaged them and I was slowly falling into Alpha meditation level. I might use the same technique later on to calm myself down very quickly.
It was funny in the end when she dried up my face with a cloth, then my feet and asked me to stand up when she started to clean up my cleavage too. She was exactly up to my boobs only so it felt a bit strange.
I just offered to dry myself up instead. It was not followed by any shower so I left half oily and with my hair full of oil to take a shower in my room.
I left the spa flying like a light baby bird.
It’s really funny that when I first stepped into the massage room at the Santhigiri Ayurveda Munnar Tea County Kerala, I regretted being so obsessed with spa.
But sometimes we should really not judge based on the appearances only.
The spa might look super old, not taken care of, and very communist, but it doesn’t change the fact I enjoyed the Elakkizhi massage to maximum and I will remember it for a long time, that’s for sure.
Elakkizhi massage is an Ayurvedic herbal leaf pack massage with fresh herbs cooked in oils and packed into bags. The bags are then dipped in the oil and applied all over the body. The refreshing massage is good for detox, to heal ache, it’s anti-inflammatory, reduces swelling, analgesic (reduces pain), antispasmodic (reduces stiffness.) It’s also very effective to reduce low back pain and arthritis and it did help me, indeed.
Taking the weirdest, yet very pleasant massage at Santhigiri Ayurveda Munnar Tea County Kerala was part of my Adventure and Spa project organised by the Kerala Tourism.

Yes I thought so, I know very few women who go for it.
I would say try everything once in life and if you have some comfort level with some woman masseuse who is bit older then you, it might feel soothing ;)
My bf tried prostrate massage from an older man and that was really funny.

I understand, yaa it was too funny, I teased him maybe he shud have had a body to body massage with this old man ;)
But, over drinks he kinda said he liked prostrate massage and I always suspected hes bi :(

There is this rope massage I tried in Prague.
You are tied up all in different ropes all over the body and then you are suspended in air straight and then upside down wearing only a thong, the gentle lifting of the hanging body parts and free movements in the air give for a kind of relaxing massage I could not have imagined ;)

The massage bed was clean, that’s what mattered to me. And yes, the massage itself was really awesome, that was not a joke ;)
