5 Reasons To Visit Mykonos
The Greek Island of Mykonos is one of the most highly rated sun, sea and sand destinations in the world. Visitors have the opportunity to party from the moment that they step off the plane alongside beautiful guys and girls from around the world. And you should definitely take the time to visit the famous local attractions.
Historic Sites
You might be interested to discover that Mykonos was named after the grandson of Apollo. Take a walk around the island and you’ll notice obvious signs of the Greek Mythology. There are a number of ancient exhibits in the local museum, some of which are adorned with images depicting the Greek Gods and mortal heroes. You can continue the historical learning experience with a tour of the Panagia Paraportiani Byzantine Church. It is a stunning example of religious architecture, which is visited by members of the Christian faithful on a daily basis.
Wonderful Beaches
The two main beaches of Mykonos are called Paradise and Super Paradise. Both of them attract a young crowd who are keen to make the most of their time in this beautiful part of the world. You’ll see people sunning themselves, paddling in the crystal clear waters and getting their funk on at the beach bars. Anybody seeking some peace and quiet should head across to the secluded Mykonos beach of Lia. Here you can try a spot of sea fishing or snorkeling.
Gay Scene
Mykonos has long been a popular gay holiday destination so if that’s what you are looking for, now you know where to visit! There’s a really good chance of meeting hunky guys and sassy girls at gay friendly bars such as Lola, Kastro Bar and and Ramrod. Even if you don’t meet that special someone, you’ll be bound to enjoy some disco dancing!
High Octane Activities
If you’re keen to try water sports then Mykonos is the place to be. There are rental shops on the island specialising in everything from surfing to kiteboarding. You may also be interested in taking some lessons on the beaches of Fteliá, Meyáli Ámmos and Kórfos. It shouldn’t be too long until you’ve start riding the crazy Aegean waves. And if you want to spend more time in the water then why not book a scuba diving trip to one of the local sites? You might be lucky enough to spot eels, seahorses or perhaps even dolphin in the deep blue.
Culinary Treats
The Greek people have a special talent for creating scrumptious foods. On a typical restaurant menu you’ll find delights such as pepper flavoured kopanisti, spiced pork filets and meaty kebabs. You’ll also have the opportunity to try a variety of fresh seafood dishes. And you might like to top the meal off with a slice of speciality amigdalotá pastry.
