Well, I said it first time last year I would not go back to the US and I did. Shame it turned out to have another bad experience again but the rest was cool and I still have a bunch of nice memories from SF, Yosemite, Vegas, Grand Canyon :) And no, Ryan didn’t meet many of my points.

Those are two horrible experiences! However, you can’t judge all American guys on two a-holes! This one really makes me curious. He obviously turned out to be a bad guy but it seems like there wasn’t much in common with him to start with. He didn’t fit the criteria for your ideal guy right?

The good news is that you at least enjoyed your visit and liked San Francisco. Honestly, not all Americans are this bad. I hate that it makes you not even want to the US again.

OMG. I just feel sorry for you. What an idiot this guy! I am like you, I can’t stand lies and not being honest. And I know this is going to sound racist, but my friend had a theory and all the guys called Ryan and Simon are not usually good :P

I am so happy to hear from you, Jim! Yeah, the wine train experience was amazing and at least I met you guys! You are really lucky. So I guess I have another 15 – 20 years of solo travel without having to worry :)

    Alex,
I hope the fun time you had on the wine train made up for the pain caused by the moron who only wanted sex.

My wife Therese and are proof that waiting for the right one is worth it.

We met and married in our mid 40’s and have never been happier.

I wish I could defend American men, but I doubt if they are any different than any other Nationality. Some percentage are just not worth your time.

    Good luck and stay positive.

Well, not sure if I go to the US again. I mean 2 chances were not enough? But thanks for the tips, Jason!

I’m sorry to hear about your bad trip there. Unfortunately this is becoming more and more the norm of how people treat each other in the States these days. Morals and decency are slipping away, worse in some places than in others, but it’s happening across the board. It’s not just men, the average American is becoming a first rate A-hole these days. I would recommend the midwest or south if you make it back to the States, but there’s no promise you won’t find people like that there too.

Whata soap opera! No really, I hope you never in the manner of possible have another experience like this. And of course, have a grandiosa, maravillosa, excelente aventura en tu segunda visita a México. Post data: cuídate mucho, suerte!

Thanks Aleah! I know, I would regret not giving him a chance. Well, it makes me feel a lot better when I write down my feelings and also, I told Ryan I would publish this if he didn’t behave like human …

He sounds so f*cked up it’s almost unbelievable! You were right in taking a chance at love and happiness, even though it didn’t turn out well. Maybe someday I will also have the courage like you to write about love on the road. :)

I had a similar experience with a guy I met in the Netherlands, not as crazy as your story though. He was 13 years older than me, nothing like I normally go for, and I was crazy enough to go to his house 2 hours away from Amsterdam. We had the most beautiful time together and it was magical. Afterwards he was still messaging me saying he didn’t want to wait long to see me again, that he would fly to my country as soon as he came back from traveling to south america for a month. Well soon enough I found out that he had someone else, but even then he still messaged me on facebook and had plans to travel to Greece together with me this spring. I just kind of left it at that and never bothered asking what really was going on, but I was confused and disappointed, still missing him and the time we had together. Oh well…

Oh well. You know my thoughts on this part, dear :) Hope you feel better now. It must be tough to write about the whole thing here. *hugs*
