I remember the days where remote beautiful places were hard to find and get to! I’m a adventurous soul taking paths less traveled. Started going scuba diving Cozumel and the caves / reef systems. . Even got engaged to my F/A AA wife, diving in one of the grottos off Palencar reef. Playa del Carmen was just getting developed back then.
Tulum was always a little day trip ferry/bus ride for photography and beach. Very few tourists. Jaguars running across pothole limerick road.
When I found out they built a cruise ship dock on top of part of the reef, we quit going. Sounds like they’ve now ruined Tulum? No thank you. Crime was starting to get bad in Cancun. We were robbed 2x while visiting in broad daylight!
Not to mention a private yoga resort was taken over by a band of well equipped bandits! After they secured it the mayor flew in by helicopter to take over!
We are through with Mexico and it’s lawlessness.
Luckily, we found a few out of site places that haven’t been ruined yet. But, one has to do their homework and go well equipped.
    Safe Travels

Really appreciate your comment about your own experience, thank you. Such a shame it’s getting worse and worse in that part of Mexico, as it’s STILL really beautiful there. But I understand what you mean. It’s upsetting to see what’s happening there both nature and tourism-wise. Well, and crime there is yet another disadvantage, unfortunately. Thanks and safe travels to you, too
