Bastimentos Sky Zipline Canopy Tour at Red Frog Beach
Bastimentos island, one of the 9 main islands of Bocas del Toro in Panama is famous for a few things … the Red Frog beach is one of them, then red frogs in the rain forest, the Caribbean style Old Bank town, Up in the Hill chocolate and coffee farm and recently also the Bastimentos Sky Zipline Canopy Tour.
I was lucky enough to have spent a couple of days at the well-known Red Frog Beach renting a private villa at the Red Frog Beach Resort. Like I mentioned in the article, I needed days off doing nothing and the weather was more or less in my favor. In the beginning I just enjoyed my pool, the beach, driving the golf cart and my huge kitchen. And I indulged in a whole body massage in the Susurro Spa, too. Then when it rained, it meant blogging time. Not bad either.
I was supposed to try the Bastimentos Sky Zipline Canopy while on the Bastimentos island but I was just too lazy the first days. On my last day I packed my little bag, took the golf cart for the last drive and made my way next to the Kayukos restaurant where the tour desk is located.
I was supposed to do the zipline at 10 am, but there was a group of young American teenagers with their teacher. I was asked if I wanted to do the afternoon tour instead with less people to get a better experience.
It was a nice sunny day after the storm so I said yes to the Red Frog Beach one more time. I checked out, left my bag at the reception, got a towel from the Bocas Bound Hostel and drove the golf cart to the beach. I drank and then ate 3 fresh coconuts while getting my daily vitamin D.
Well, it was a perfect day … just a bit upside down as usually I do an adventure activity and then relax. But on that day, I first spent almost 3 hours on the beach and then it was time for some swaying and screaming :)
It was 1 pm and I waited at the zipline desk again. The rest of the teenagers with their teacher were there going to do the tour with me. So it was just me and the teacher maybe in her 50’s, and then a few guys. Well, this is going to be fun, I thought.
Richard, the tour guide and his colleague gave us all the gear. Then we hopped on the truck with the helmets on and driving among the luxury villas with the beautiful views we made our way to the zipline.
Bastimentos Sky Zipline Canopy consists of 7 ziplines, sky bridge, vertical rappel and a few other adventurous activities for us, the crazy souls.
It was so much fun to see how much some guys were scared, how much some of them screamed and had to kind of force themselves to do the zipline.
I have done so many ziplines (e.g. the highest one in El Chiflon waterfall, or the driest zipline in Las Vegas) that I knew exactly what kind of adrenaline rush I was going to go through. THE kind I needed so much.
I was still lazy and not in the zipline mood when we started but after a few minutes it all changed. Ziplining is simply hilarious! It pumped up my blood so quickly I was in a great mood already after the first zipline. Plus, we had awesome conversations with the guides, and even some guys who were interested in finding out more about what I do.
I have to say there’s not that many complex zipline tours around the world like the Bastimentos Sky Zipline Canopy. Unfortunately, I was not wearing the best shoes so I could not enjoy all the different activities properly as it was not very safe.
I was a bit nervous as I had a boat to catch back to Isla Colon, the main Bocas del Toro island, where I had a Reiki session at the Danuta’s Holistic Healing center at 4pm.
Usually the zipline takes around 2 hours but we were all so rocking it, it took us a bit more and I missed my boat at 3.30 pm. Thankfully, the staff at the Red Frog Beach Resort got me on a private boat safe and sound back to Bocas Town.
