Best dozen posts of 2012
A few days ago I was contacted by Lash to be part of Travel Bloggers Best Dozen project so here I am. There are 12 best posts of 2012.
1. Most popular
People LOVE things that evoke emotions in them. Unfortunately, the most popular post in 2012 I think was the one where I described how my brother committed suicide and why it is one of the main reasons I travel around the world. This post showed to many that my life is NOT like in a great movie but it has some really sad moments too.
2. Most helpful travel tip
I give a lot of tips in my posts but very rarely just write whole posts about tips only. One of them with the best tips could be when I got the first impression of Budapest and finally visited it after years of just passing through. Budapest is an overlooked city by many travelers and it was by me too until September 2012. Amazing views, beautiful architecture and much more.
3. A post that was surprisingly successful
I don’t write about my personal stuff and relationships very often on this blog, but I found out that not just bad things that happen, but also to read about love is very interesting to many. So when I wrote about my new boyfriend and our romantic travel love story that was like from a romantic movie, it was a huge success and I got so many messages afterwards. But, the things changed very quickly and I celebrated 4th July as Independence day from my ex boyfriend.
4. A post I thought was under-rated
There are three posts on three days I spent in one of the nicest places on the Earth – when I visited the unbelievably stunning and diverse Uyuni Salt Flats. I dare to say it is one of the prettiest places ever so I would expect more love from the readers.
5. Most controversial
I decided to be a bit rude and write a post about my 12 days in Egypt on all inclusive holidays and what I did there without internet for such a long time. I even took a crazy video just to make some people jealous as I cannot stand their illogical jealousy. Obviously there were a few cheeky sexy photos of me in bikini and even in the video. I love beach and swimming pool, so what?!
6. Most amusing
I guess here the first post that comes to my mind would be 25 reasons why travel is better than sex. I wrote it after seeing a post by JD Andrews why travel is similar to sex and straight away I came up with 25 reasons why we should travel more than think of sex. Not enough sex? Go traveling :)
7. The post I’m most proud of
The post I’m most proud of is the one I wrote about the money I spent in 2012 – 11,926.83 euro in 15 countries and on 26 flights. I am proud of spending relatively small amount of money for traveling so much.
8. Best travel story or travel perspective
My plans in Bolivia changed a few times but the best change was when I could visit Pampas in the Amazon of Bolivia in the end for three days. I wrote three posts about it and for me it was the best travel story mostly because I survived it :D The millions of mosquitoes and many other adventures was definitely crazy travel and the most challenging one.
9. Best travel adventure
When I changed my plans and instead of visiting my lifelong dream Peru I went to cure my sinusitis at the beaches of Costa Rica, I had no plans on doing anything else but relax there. But as I cannot stay still, I decided to push myself and try rafting for the first time. I admit it was a bit scary thought but turned ut to be one of the best travel fun adventures of 2012. We rafted famous Pacuare river and our guide was super cute too!
10. Best cultural perspectives or insights
I have published a few posts comparing 2 countries I visited, both things they have in common and those different ones. These posts say a lot about culture in those countries. Similarities and differences between Thailand and Philippines, two countries being very high on my top 10 countries, was the most popular.
11. Most beautiful
I can’t help it but one of the most beautiful places I visited in 2012, and also I have ever visited, was Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina. There I became obsessed with glaciers and the image of Perito Moreno have been stuck on both my mind and in my heart ever since.
12. Best photo or photo gallery
I can’t help it but Atacama desert was one of those destinations where I did not expect much but I was swept from my feet by its beauty. Places like Altiplanic lagoons, geysers, hot springs, ruins and Moon Valley are the best photographed ever. I would go back there any time!
