Colourful streets of Puebla – Callejón de los sapos
Puebla is a big city. I never expected it that big, but it is the 4th biggest in Mexico. Situated on the way between heroic Veracruz and Mexico City, reminded me a bit of Mexico City with so many shopping centres and a lot of life.
Just the architecture in Puebla is totally different – mostly from unique Renaissance to Mexican Baroque which contributed to choosing Puebla as a World Heritage Site.
Puebla buildings in the historic centre are so lovely! Most of them are covered with colourful tiles – azulejos in Spanish, or just painted with all the possible colours as in many other Mexican towns, such as in San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Waiting for a friend, I came across this wonderful traditional street called 6 Sur and loved it! The street is nicknamed Callejón de los sapos (Street of the frogs or Frog Alley) and it is full of handcraft shops, restaurants and bars.

I think it’s translated as “Frog Alley.” That’s how I translate it at least.

I never really found out the explanation of the nickname. Yes, it means Alley but for me it looked more like a street than an alley. Anyway, it was one of my favorite streets in Mexico.

I have to agree with Arturo, the colors of this place really stand out, especially since you don’t see as many colorful buildings in the states. Great pictures!
