My holidays in Slovakia
I’ve been living abroad, I mean not in my native country since 2003 when I went to study at the University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Since then, I come to Slovakia only for holidays, at least this is how I call it, so then I don’t have to clean and wash the dishes and stuff, as I often say my favourite phrase ”I’m on holidays” :)
Holidays … means relax for mind and body, it should be like this, right?
So of course when I go home to Slovakia, to make my stay there be at least a bit like holidays, I have to enjoy. And especially after the long trip that takes me 12 – 30 hours, depends on the flights and then I have to take a train (9-12 hours) from the capital to my home town Snina. Obviously, if the flight or train is late, I miss the next one so the trip becomes even longer.
After this I’m destroyed so when finally home, I go for massages like I went yesterday, all body, just back massage, foot massage etc. I have my own professional masseur Katka (in masazny salon Katka), so I get a massage whenever I want. She is one of my sponsors so free massage is even better than a paid one :)
Another thing that counts as part of relaxing holidays for me, is swimming pool and sauna. The closest one to my place is in hotel Kamei where you can go every day from 4pm to 6pm for just 5 euro and enjoy sauna and cool yourself down or have a swim in the pool.
I go there at least once a week, depends how long I stay in the town. It’s great to relax all the muscles and sweat off some toxins in sauna. However, this time we went to a different place, Pension Stefanie which is like 40 min by car if you take the shorter way through forest to Vinné lake.
Its wellness center offers a pool for swimmers, sauna pool with colder water and whirling pool, a massage chair, tanning booth, tepiderium, then dry Finnish sauna, steam sauna and infrared sauna. I prefer the steam or infrared one to dry as the dry sauna is not very pleasant for my nose and eyes.
The wellness center of Stefanie is open during summer from 7am to 9pm, winter time 1pm – 9pm week days and 10am – 9pm weekends. You can enjoy everything for just 6 euro per hour, 8 euro per 2 hours or 13 per 3 hours (the massage chair and tanning booth are paid separately).
Sauna, swimming and massages make me feel like a new person, I wish I could do it more often. Not just to feel good, but to look good is important for me, too. So when in Slovakia, me or my mom cut and dye my hair or I have it done in hairdresser’s, I dye the eyebrows and eyelashes, follow it with some hair and facial masks, take care of my nails as I always break them at work etc.
To perfect holidays belongs as well a lot of tasty food. And we definitely have great Slovak cuisine. My mother and grandmother are very good cooks and then I go out to restaurants with friends. Basically each visit I do, there is some food and in my country is considered rude to refuse it, so I eat and eat and eat.
Like today, I went to see my aunt and her daughter and dogs, and they gave me a home baked whole grain bread, still hot, was delicious!! And as I’m on holidays, I don’t care if I put on weight or not (I always do!!! Now after 3 days at home I’ve gained already 3 cm on my waist and still 10 more days here ahead of me, heeeeeeeelp).
To chill out properly during my holidays in Slovakia, I spend a lot of time with my family, dog Cezar and friends, and in the forest. Although it may seem I do not do anything while I’m here, apart from relax, the truth is I’m pretty busy visiting everyone and going to all the doctors, buying things I can’t get abroad. But of course I always try to spend holidays in Slovakia the best way possible.
