Balinese massage
I had no idea what to expect from a Balinese massage but some moves were similar to Thai massages (e.g. pressing the important points through a sheet/towel first to release tense muscles; but no crazy moves then.) It was very mild, but strong enough to stimulate blood circulation.
First always through the sheet, then with green tea oil. It smelled so awesome! I am a big fan of green tea and in cold weather I enjoy a morning cup of green tea to wake me up but in the tropics it’s not that common and I don’t feel like drinking anything but water and coconuts. It makes me miss green tea in my life but this oil made up for it :)
Anyway, if you don’t like green tea oil, you can pick a different one. It’s always coconut oil with essence of ylang-ylang (oh, so many great memories from Costa Rica), frangipani, lotus, clove, passion fruit, white musk or sensual flavour.
Once the whole back part was massaged, I slowly turned over to get the same treatment on my front body. I usually enjoy more the back but this time it was the other way round. The therapist also put an eye mask on my face so the light did not bother me. The mask smelled like herbs but I could not figure out which ones.
Out of the whole relaxing massage, I loved the most when she focused on my feet, thighs from the front, hands and fingers, shoulder blades and neck. My neck is super tight so I guess she could feel it and kept moving the muscles that got stuck there.
Erna finished the treatment with a head massage which always seems to wake up all my senses and give me new energy. This time it literally woke me up as I fell asleep a few minutes before that. Well, napping is always good, right?
Body mask
Initially, I wanted a facial treatment as some detox was shown on my face with pimples so wanted to get rid of them. But as I am trying to be vegan as much as I can, I found out yoghur and a milk-based cream would be used so I had to change it and get a body mask instead.
Only organic ingredients are part of the body masks which meant a big yes to me! I could choose from papaya, coconut, lemongrass, cucumber or green tea. I use coconut oil all the time and even travel with it, and have been eating a lot of papaya so opted for green tea once again. Green tea body mask is great for detox and contains many minerals and vitamins which your biggest organ, skin, absorbs straight away.
Just in my bottom underwear the same therapist put the warm mask on my legs, then back and arms and covered me with a sheet so I didn’t feel cold when relaxing.
When I was trying to meditate, she pressed some points on my feet with her fingers. She began going in lines from the heel to the toes, then squeezed the sides of the foot together. What a feeling!
Probably after 25 minutes, I turned over and green tea powder was placed all over my front body, except the underwear. I even said yes to the mask on my boobs.
I decided to get my cleavage treated on this trip in Thailand and Bali the same as other parts of my body. In Europe and North America it is not common for spa therapists to ask if you are ok with boob treatment but in here it seems normal so it doesn’t feel weird to me.
Then covering my eyes, Erna massaged my head while letting the green tea do wonders with my body. The mask all over me did look greenish, so funny! And guess what? I fell asleep again :)
After an hour of doing nothing but looking green I could take a shower to wash it all out. My skin did not feel oily but moisturized and glowing when I left. Only before leaving I noticed a Hindu shrine in the corner just outside of the spa. I so appreciate following the local habits even here at the spa.
Foot and leg massage
After my two treatments at the OK Divers Spa, I kind of knew already what to expect from a leg and foot massage. My feet were washed first in a little floor sink by the bench, heels peeled with salt and my toe nails brushed. I think they should peel the heels in all the spas around the world as it’s not very common.
Then I indulged myself and let the therapist release my fatigued legs. When facing down, Erna who knew me pretty well already, started pressing specific points on my left foot along the bones and then on the sides.
She followed stimulating the points all around the calf and only then put on again my beloved coconut oil with green tea. She was so smooth when changing the different techniques – pressing with 1 finger only, then 2, all of them, 1 palm, 2 palms etc.
Once the same was done on my right leg as well up to the knee, I turned over and similar movements followed on the upper side of the feet. I extremely enjoyed having the middle of the feet massaged and then the calves. Could not have felt more awesome to have such a relief to the smell of cinnamon candle!
The therapist was so cute she even covered my arm the second I scratched a new mosquito bite!
